Avionics Service Bulletin Corner

Avionics Service Bulletins are published periodically by avionics equipment manufacturers. Here is a partial list of current bulletins and Airworthiness Directives. We will be glad to discuss any that apply to you.

  • Garmin - GTX-330/33 - MANDATORY. Effective 7/19/04. Requires uploading new firmware to version 3.06. Transponder safety of flight issue. Corrects TAS, TCAD, TCAS1 problem that could lead to aircraft not being visible at certain ranges.
  • Garmin - GTX 330/33 - Customer option upgrade to implement SW 4.01 Elementary/Enhanced Surveillance.
  • Garmin - G1000 Aircraft - MANDATORY. Garmin SW Bulletin #0533, which contains instructions for updating IGRF (International Geometric Reference Frame) from base year 200 to 2005, as the earth's magnetic field is constantly changing. Requires all G1000 aircraft to update IGRF Magnetic Field Model to 2005 before December 31, 2006. Compliance is suggested at next regularly scheduled aircraft maintenance event. Similar updates will become available every five years.
  • Garmin - G1000 System SW Update for Diamond DA40 & DA40F A/C - MANDATORY. Garmin SW Service Bulletin #0539 provides information required to update G1000 equipped subject A/C with SW version 0369.08 in accordance with Amendment 2 of STC #SA01254 WI.
  • Bendix King - KX 155A-9 Modification to insure activation of runway lights be sequential keying of the transmitter at airports equipped with this feature.
  • Bendix King - KX 155A/165A-10 Modification to both frequency selectors pull knobs to insure retaining rings do not come off, causing radio failure.
  • Bendix King - KY 197A-4 Modification to prevent possibility of internal short causing smoke in the cockpit.

These service bulletins may be covered by your original factory warranty or until a date extended by specific service bulletin beyond your warranty expiration date, depending on serial number. Call us with your avionics serial numbers and mod status to find out if any of these bulletins apply to you. The sooner you call, the more likely the service will be paid for by the manufacturer.
