Kings Installs Avidyne FlightMax EX500 with Built-In Datalink for Automatic NEXRAD Weather
Avidyne has struck a blow for simplicity in the use of NEXRAD weather with its new FlightMax EX500 system with built-in datalink. As soon as you turn it on and put your destination into the GPS, the EX500 starts to assemble the weather information you will need all along you route—and updates it automatically as you go along. You don't have to request anything. The system knows what you need, and provides it as you need it, including graphical METAR information, all seamlessly integrated with your flight plan moving map, lightning, terrain and hazard avoidance information. You see it all on a single easy to view, easy to interpret display for improved situational awareness and great safety.

Shown here, in panel of the Cessna 404 of FLAX Services in Salt Lake City, is the new Avidyne Flight Max EX500 MFD. The airplane is flown by owner, pilot Neils Valentiner, a prominent Salt Lake City architect, who uses it to keep tabs on construction projects in several Western states. |
The EX500 is compatible with avionics equipment of many manufacturers, including many different radars. It can interface with heading systems, GPS/FMS units, for lightning with the Goodrich WX 500 Stormscope, and for traffic and terrain awareness with a variety of equipment of Bendix/King, Bendix, Collins, Goodrich, Ryan and others.
In addition to the EX500, we also installed two Garmin GNS-430 MFDs, a Garmin GTX-327 transponder, a Garmin GMA 340 audio panel and a Bendix/King traffic and terrain warning system with a KMD 550 indicator.
