GPS, moving maps and Nexrad are great, but... Don't Overlook The Care Of Your VOR/ILS Systems And Related Flight Instruments
With all the new-age avionics now gracing the panels of our aircraft, from 2- and 4-place singles to light twins, turboprops and jets of every size, it's important not to overlook the upkeep and servicing of less glamorous but no less important systems we've been relying on for years.
There's no question that GPS and moving maps with Nexrad weather displays have taken a lot of the work and worry out of long flights. But when you get to your destination and need to make a really low approach, you don't want to have to worry about the accuracy of your ILS receiver or other electronic flight instruments. And just because it may not be time for a scheduled inspection doesn't mean you should put off having something serviced that may not be performing as well as you think it should.
We maintain a full-time instrument shop under the direction of Lynn Mitchell, and staffed by two highly skilled and experienced technicians, Mark Anders and Alan Luk. We function-check, on the bench, all types of flight instruments. We specialize in repairing electronic HSI systems and electronic attitude indicator systems, as well as altimeters, encoders, and VOR/ILS indicators. And we understand how important it is to you to have your aircraft always ready to go when you are, so we try to repair all equipment in a timely manner to save you excessive downtime.
Mark and Alan are seen here testing and calibrating an ARC Horizontal Situation Indicator and a Honeywell Flight Director. |
