Ence Homes' Beech Duke Is First Kings Avionics Client To Be Equipped With Garmin-AT WAAS-Ready Navigator
Now that the FAA has introduced its revolutionary new Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS), one client of Kings Avionics has lost no time preparing to take advantage of this promising new service.
Kings Avionics appreciates being selected by Ence Homes, of St. George, one of Utah's largest homebuilders, to install the new Gramin-AT CNX80 WAAS/GPS Navigator in its Beech A-60 Duke. We also installed a Garmin-AT MX20 MFD, which was specifically designed to display the data developed by the CNX80.
Kings congratulates Quentin Ence, president of Ence Homes, and Ken Mangum, who fly the Duke, on their decision to take advantage of the WAAS technology, developed to provide precision lateral and vertical guidance at thousands of airports and air strips where none now exists. Aircraft with WAAS-capable equipment will have the potential of an ILS-type approach at any airport.
The CNX80 is the industry's first certified WAAS/GPS navigator designed for general aviation, and is the first navigator approved for primary navigation under the FAA's new TSO-C146A.

Quentin Ence, president of Ence Homes, and pilot of the company's Beechcraft Duke checks out the Garmin-AT CNX80 WAAS/GPS Navigator and the Garmin-AT MX20 MFD with co-pilot Ken Mangum. Mr. Ence says the Duke is an invaluable travel tool for covering the firm's broad operating territory. |
In addition to the WAAS technology, one of the principal reasons Mr. Ence chose the CNX80 is because of the way it and the S-Tec System 65 Autopilot work so well together. As every instrument pilot knows, one of the most difficult parts of any approach is the procedure turn and holding pattern. The CNX80 is the first general aviation GPS system to output roll steering that includes procedure turns to approaches and holding patterns. This roll steering data bus output, along with the GPSS option from the S-Tec System 65 Autopilot, allows the system to automatically couple and track blended GPS and heading signals to provide a very smooth autopilot GPS track--not only en route, but also throughout the approach to decision height.
With its beautiful new paint, new interior and advanced avionics, Ence Homes' Beechcraft Duke is one of the nicest, most desirable Dukes we have seen. |
