The Road To Morocco Runs Through Kings Avionics In Salt Lake City

Morocco. To some folks, the mere mention of the word evokes visions of adventure, mystery, intrigue. Bing and Bob and Dorothy. Bogart and Bergman. Casablanca. Rick's Cafe Americaine. A honky tonk piano with Sam playing As Time Goes By. A foggy airport. The night plane to Lisbon--and freedom if you had the right papers.

But in the real world, Morocco is the headquarters of Tawarta, a company which conducts large scale farming operations in Morocco, and supplies vegetables to France and other European countries.

To keep in touch with its operations, the company recently acquired a Beechcraft King Air 200 from Million Air in Salt Lake City. Chief Pilot Alain Rosso and Eric Dargelos, a pilot representing the aircraft broker in France, came to Salt Lake City to pick up the airplane and take it to Morocco. But before they started the trip, Kings Avionics was asked to upgrade the avionics. Kings technicians installed a Garmin GNS 430 and a GNS 430A, with 16 watts transmitting power for longer range communications, and rebuilt the center panel of the aircraft.

Before leaving, the new owner applied to the Moroccan government for Moroccan registration, which was somewhat slow in coming, due to the distance involved. Finally, the registration was granted and aircraft registration identification letters were assigned. Once these were in place, the aircraft took off from Salt Lake City on a special flight permit and crossed the U.S. border after clearing through Chicago Midway. After leaving the U.S., it continued to Goose Bay, Labrador and then to Europe.

Kings Avionics has installed equipment on a number of aircraft that operate worldwide, and has become familiar with requirements governing the operation of aircraft in many other nations. This makes us, more than ever, better qualified to deal with problems you may encounter with your operations. If we may be of help to you, please give us a call at 801-539-8412
