New Low-Cost Terrain Upgrades Now Available For Garmin 400/500 Units

Now that Garmin has made the advisory terrain warning feature available in its new GNS 400/500 series units, and as an upgrade for existing units, some customers have inquired about upgrading their recently purchased units to add this feature. To accommodate these aircraft owners, Garmin has developed a plan to offer the terrain upgrade for units purchased after June 1, 2005 at no charge for the equipment. But because Garmin will not accept warranty claims for the installation labor, Garmin dealers will need to charge customers for the labor required to install these upgrades. If dealers find it necessary to send GNS 400/500 series units to Garmin for factory terrain upgrades, the units must pass the same automated testing as new units before leaving the factory. If an out-of-warranty unit does not pass this testing procedure, flat-rate repair charges may apply in addition to the terrain upgrade charge.

Since Kings Avionics is a full-service dealer, with all the necessary testing equipment and installation capability, it will not be necessary, in most cases, for us to send your 400/500 unit to Garmin for installation of the upgrade. Several aircraft owners have already expressed interest in having the new terrain upgrades installed in their 400/500 units. Naturally, installations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't delay.

If you are interested in adding the new terrain advisory feature to your 400/500 unit, please call us now at call 801-539-8412 to make arrangements. Ask for Doug or Jim.
