Kings Avionics technicians Clay Allison and Matt Drake perform final inspection and ops evaluation of Heads Up XM WX Satellite Weather system installed in Cirrus SR22 aircraft, which displays on the Avidyne Integra MFD. It will soon display XM WX Satellite Weather, available by subscription. |
If you already have a moving map, Garmin, Avidyne, and other avionics manufacturers, can upgrade your present system at a very modest cost of receive XM WX Satellite Weather. And, even if you don't yet have a moving map in your aircraft, there has never been a better reason to get one.
XM WX transmits a NEXRAD national radar picture every 5 minutes via satellite broadcasts. No request/reply action is needed. XM Satellite Radio has two powerful geostationary satellites positioned over the east and west coasts to provide seamless coverage of the U. S. and coastal waters. Its super-sharp graphics can show storm cells, speed and direction of movement, echo tops, lightning, possible hail, winds aloft, precipitation type at surface, METARS, SIGMETS, AIRMETS, TAFs, TRFs, and more.
Now you can have NEXRAD weather--sharper, clearer than you have ever seen it--shown here overlaid on a Garmin GNS 530 moving map. |

XM WX Satellite Weather, available by subscription, offers two service tiers--the "Aviator" tier, at $49.99 monthly, and the "Aviator Lite" tier, which provides a core group of services at $29.99 monthly. This allows users to select the level of service that best fits their needs at a corresponding price.
Besides XM WX Satellite Weather in the cockpit, XM WX can provide quality entertainment programs in the passenger cabin. In fact, the aircraft can be wired to provide individual channel selection at each passenger seat.
With XM WX Satellite Weather available in your cockpit, you can now know far in advance what type of weather you will encounter on any flight. Unlike radar alone, which cannot always show you what may be lurking behind that storm front, XM WX Satellite graphics show you the entire picture. So you should never again fly up to a thunderstorm without knowing it is there, and--even more important--what's hidden behind it that you can't see on radar alone.
