At Last, Avionics Manufacturers Are Shipping And We're Installing Datalinks For XM Weather
For months now, the aviation press has been abuzz with excitement about the wonders of XM Satellite Weather. We reported on it in our February newsletter. Aircraft owners everywhere want it. But there's a problem--avionics shops everywhere have been having difficulties getting the datalink equipment needed to install XM Weather in customer aircraft. That's all behind us now, we are told. Datalink equipment from Garmin and Avidyne is starting to become available. As the ordered equipment arrives, installations are being scheduled. If you placed an order with us for datalink equipment, we can only apologize for the delay and promise you we will get to you as fast as we can.
Now you can have NEXRAD weather--sharper, clearer than you have ever seen it--shown here overlaid on a Garmin GNS 530 moving map. |

As most aircraft owners know by now, XM Satellite Radio has joined with WX Worx, a private weather information service, to bring almost unbelievably clear high resolution weather graphics and other vital data to your cockpit in near real time. XM Weather offers two service tiers--the "aviator" at $49.99 monthly and "Aviator Lite" at $29.99.
Garmin brings you XM Weather via its GDL 69 datalink, which will display on Garmin's 400 and 500 series and MX 20 MFDs. The GDL 69A can also provide music and other quality entertainment to the passenger cabin.
Avidyne's new Multi-Link system displays XM Weather on its popular FlightMax EX500 multi-function display. The EX500 interfaces with the Heads Up Technology XMD 076 XM Datalink Receiver.
